Review of Magcraft NSN0911 1/2-Inch by 1/2-Inch by 1/8-Inch Rare Earth Block Magnets, 10-Count

All of these Magcraft magnets deserve a 5 star rating for their strength and variations in design. Apart from that, be forewarned! These magnets are so strong they may cause some mischief. They are definitely not safe for small children. For example, I put one on the refrigerator but it was too strong to pull off. I had to slide the magnet over to the edge of the door to peel it off. But the magnet snapped around the corner and pinched my finger creating a blood blister. Also, contrary to the episode of Myth Busters, these magnets are in fact strong enough to de-magnetize the magnetic strip on your ATM card. I know this for certain because I unwittingly carried one of the larger magnets around in the same pocket where I keep my wallet. The next time I went to the store my ATM card would not work. So I tried my Visa card. It wouldn't work either. So these magnets are great, but use with caution!

Review of Magcraft NSN0575 3/8-Inch by 1/4-Inch Rare Earth Disc Magnets, 12-Count

I am using this to make a small scaled test generator for a wind turbine.I used 28 gage wire in tiny loops of 100 coils about 1.5" across.I used a CD and hot glued 12 of these in 2 phases of 6 coils each.I placed 12 magnets with alterning polarity around a second CD.I added a shaft and placed the magnets about 1mm from the coils.I used a 2.8v dual LED that generates a green/red light for +/-.Since this is a generator it will generate A/C power.I did not have extra diodes to tie the two phases together so I have a seperate LED for each phase.Spinning by hand I can get both to light , but using a drill they get pretty bright.I figure when I get the two poles tied together I will have about 6v at probably .5A.This is no where need, so I ordered much bigger magnets... 1"x3/8" with a 34 pound pull (over 4x larger than these) and will likely double the number and size of the coils.I am hoping for 24v at maybe 5-10 amps in a good wind.To keep from overheating the coils I will likely make it 4-6 phases.

Review of Magcraft NSN0548 1/4-Inch by 1/4-Inch Rare Earth Cylinder Magnets, 20-Count

They deliver what they offer.

I use them as a distraction while I'm thinking. Add in a handful of small ball bearings and a few steel rods and you have a small sculpture set. I sewed a few of them into a canvas tool bag and they hold loose screws and small metal parts in place. You can find nails behind drywall with these as well.

Everybody should have a few magnets in the house.

Review of Magcraft NSN0656 1/2-Inch by 1-Inch Rare Earth Rod Magnets, 2-Count

I am in the commercial construction trades and purchased these magnets for myself and some co-workers. These magnets were very strong. My friend had one in his front pocket, and it held a 22 ounce Estwing hammer on the outside of his pants as he walked around. I drilled and epoxied three into a 48" wooden level, not sure if that was enough pulling force for the level. This magnetic level has more magnet strength than I expected, easily more than any magnetic level I have ever used, including those with rare earth magnets.

Review of Magcraft NSN0683 3/4-Inch by 1/16-Inch Rare Earth Disc Magnets, 10-Count

I have a metal-framed desk to which I attach these magnets. Tools and small metal candy tins then hang within easy reach of my work area, and organize my various accessories such as screws, circuits, solder, and other stuff. Magnets also hold my metal utensils against my oven while I cook! This size is wide and flat and will be difficult to remove from against a wide surface unless you can slide it to an edge. As with all neodymium magnets, they can pinch your skin, and will scratch or crack if mishandled. Do not let children swallow them!

Review of Magcraft NSN0577 1/8-Inch by 3/8-Inch Rare Earth Rod Magnets, 40-Count

From personal experience, I associate Rare Earth Magnets with pinching and the snapping sound as they adhere themselves to my fire door, relatively permanently.

These are strong enough to use practically like pushpins on a refrigerator, but will not pinch your fingers.

Also, they are super fun to build tiny structures with.

Enjoy.

Review of Magcraft NSN0617 1/4-Inch by 1/4-Inch Rare Earth Rod Magnets, 20-Count

Got this set of magnets to replace several magnets used to hold pictures on the fridge. This babies are VERY strong - almost too strong. My kids can't remove them from the fridge (maybe a good thing?).But they can hold absolutely anything on the fridge door without sliding, or budging after frequent door opening and closing.Their very small size makes them almost disappear, allowing pictures and whatnot to be easily seen on the fridge door.Great magnets, but be warned about their strength!

These medium sized disc magnets are the bees knees when it comes to tool storage and parts organization needs. You can set this disc against any metallic surface and it will hold a metal tool, such as pliers or a screwdriver, while your hands are busy. Drop one into a sock and use it to pick up loose metal bits from the garage floor. Glue one to the bottom of a plastic cup for a spill-resistant screw holder. Whatever your use, these magnets will work hard and last for years.

Review of Magcraft NSN0610 1/4-Inch by 1/10-Inch Rare Earth Block Magnets, 50-Count

I bought some sheet metal from the local hardware store and lined my walls with it. I do a lot of graphic oriented work so I chose to do this over a bulletin board which leaves papers torn and with holes.

I started out by using black metal disk magnets, but they weren't very strong, left black residue on the papers and were so bulky they got in the way of what I was looking at. The Magcraft magnets are a great alternative.

They barely take up any viewing space, they're really strong, don't leave a residue and just look elegant on the wall.

The only bad side is that since they're small and flat (1/4" x 1/4" x 1/10"), they're really hard to get off the metal surface if they are flat against the wall. I found that they work extremely well if you place them on the 1/10" side so they protrude from the wall. They're much easier to grab, still strong on that side and look cool too.

In all, I ordered three packs of these, happy how they turned out and I am about to order more right now.

Review of Magcraft NSN0641 1/2-Inch by 1/4-Inch Rare Earth Disc Magnets, 8-Count

I bought these cylidrical, 1/2" x 1/4" neodymium magnets hoping to use them as very strong refrigerator magnets, since their basic shape is not 'flat' but they have some vertical height to them.(I've tried "Magnutz" designed for fridges, but they're a bit weaker than I'd like; those contain much smaller neodymium magnets.)

I found these magnets quite strong, well-made.I don't anticipate their chipping with use, for example; I suspect they've got a stainless steel covering, although the magcraft website doesn't specify. As a fridge magnet, these are a tad TOO strong if you use them as is; they're rather difficult to get off the metal surface.E.g. if a bunch of them stick together in a stack, I can't pull them apart directly, but have to laterally slide one off the other.(Note, the description of approx. 10 lbs pulling weight each magnet seems approximately correct.Gotta get a good grip to get one of these off the fridge; I can do it, my wife can't quite.)

To make perfect extra-strong refrigerator or workplace magnets out of these, all you need to do is find some sort of container for them that you can use to "grab" the magnet.E.g. glue one of these magnets to the bottom of the tiny scoops that come with baby formula powder... or, I found it easy to sew a magnet inside a piece of 2" square cloth, making a tiny sack that works perfectly as an extremely -- extremely! strong refrigerator magnet, easy to grab & use.(Hey, someone could do some business making these...)

Whether or not the magnets fit my particular purpose: you should know that these magnets are quite strong, certainly well made, beautiful little items, seem to be designed to take a good beating.

They are certainly too strong to give a kid to play with; very little creative capacity, it seems, when they're this strong. And, they are strong enough to magnetize small iron objects, so watch out how you use them.

Review of Magcraft NSN0732 3/8-Inch by 1/16-Inch Rare Earth Disc Magnets, 40-Count

Neodymium-Iron-Boron rare earth magnet: 3/8" wafers... The north and south poles are through an axis of the "cylinder", as you would expect. This means they want to form a long "rod". It is almost impossible to push them north to north, or south to south pole (probably 10-15 lbs of force). When you play with them like this, they actually start to get hot from the magnetic "friction. You can make one of them "dance" and stand on edge at about 6" away. Don't throw them, or let them "snap" back into the stack, these wafers are very brittle (I've already cracked one). They seem to be chrystaline or cast metal, but chromed.

Review of Magcraft NSN0579 1/4-Inch by 1/8-Inch Rare Earth Disc Magnets, 40-Count

These are very powerful little magnets. They are not for small children. They are great for organizing the kid's artwork and such on your fridge.Just a couple of them are enough to hold our large calender to the fridge. When transporting my kitchen knife to a picnic or BBQ, I make a sheath by rolling up the knife in several layers of paper from a brown paper bag and then use a couple of these magnets to secure it.The paper doesn't unroll or slip off the knife.I put one magnet in the tip of the driver bit for my drill/driver, now I can dip the tip into a box of screws and pull out six or seven at a time.I bought some larger magnets also, they are insanely powerful!I use one to help keep my screw and nail containers organized. No more poked fingers trying to get sheetrock screws out from the bottom of my bag.A fun and useful product.

Review of Magcraft NSN0573 3/8-Inch by 1/8-Inch Rare Earth Disc Magnets, 30-Count

Here's what you do: get 30 plastic push-pins like folks use on cork-boards.
Light a candle, and hold the tip of a pin over the flame for 5 seconds (be careful, etc.), then pull the heated metal pin out of the plastic with pliers. With a few strokes across a file, make sure the bottom of the plastic (where the pin used to be) is flat.
Lay out your 30 magnets, keeping a generous distance between them as they will "jump" at each other and mess up your work. Mix up some 5-minute epoxy and put a very small amount on the plastic, then squish it down onto a magnet. Repeat until you have an armada of thumbtack magnets.
Once the glue is set, carefully carry the magnets to your fridge and try them out. The magnets really like to be in a stack with one another, and may destroy the plastic you've just glued on if several are loose together. This won't be an issue once they are stuck to your fridge door.
These magnets are exactly the right size for this application, and the thumbtack handle makes them very easy to place and remove.

These are not the cheesy magnets you would pick up from the planetarium/science store 10 or 20 years ago. These are high strength magnets that allow you to do amazing things around the house and office.

Do note that because of thinness of these magnets compared to their magnetic strength, you may crack/break them if using a tool (like pliers)to pry them off a surface they are stuck to.

Be aware! These babies are ridiculous strong!!!! They are very hard to pull apart. They are also very hard to pull from any surface. I have to slide them on the surface to get to the edge of the surface to be able to get some leverage to pull it off. They might just be too strong for what I need. That's the only reason why I'm rating 4 stars instead of 5.
