Seriously, I thought this bar would be just the thing to help me organize my too-small kitchen which is always strewn with knives, bottle openers, spatulae, whisks, and other kitchen implements. I also wanted something to keep my sharp knives away from my hands so that I could reach for things on the counter without worrying about stabbing myself.
This magnetic strip fits the bill perfectly. I was worried at first that it wouldn't be a strong enough magnet to hold my chef's knife, but it is. The knife is held very securely and forms a tight magnetic "seal" that breaks when you twist the knife away from it. If you bump the knife, it just rotates on the magnet - you'd have to be a real klutz to whack it hard enough to knock it off by accident. ...
I was also worried that the metal magnet would nick my knife edges. That's not a problem as long as you're careful how you put the knife on (back edge first).
I recommend this product without any reservations!

Fist one stopped keeping time, the second one ceased to ring when done, all within a few months. I wish this product weren't a waste of money but it is.
The thumb strap on the wrap actually made my thumb go to sleep during the night because it was not quite long enough and cut off my circulation.I ended up cutting off the straps.The velcro closure did not secure very well and when I would turn over during the night I would inadvertently pull the outside edge open.I liked the full coverage of the wrap, but it did not help my tendonitis and I went back to using my old ones.
Let me begin with a positive note on the OXO Good Grips oven mitt:It looks great and the magnet is a good idea. Now for the negative aspects of this item:it's WAY over-priced, especially for how poorly it is designed. The way this oven mitt is designed does not give you a "Good Grip," which is ironic since it's called the "OXO Good Grips" oven mitt.It's hard to explain, but the silicone part is somewhat stiff and when you put your hand in the mitt, you cannot easily grab things, especially if what you're trying to grab is small (like a pan lid) or narrow (like the handles on a roaster pan).It's like this mitt was designed as though the only thing anyone uses an oven mitt for is to take hot cookie sheets out of the oven. I decided not to give it one star ONLY because it does a good job of insulating your hand from high temperatures.I strongly suggest that if you are considering purchasing this OXO mitt, you should go to a store and try it on first to see what you think about the design.
